Tenor bassoon by Jean Nicolas Savary jeune, Paris, dated 1835. In excellent condition; 10 original brass keys. Plays nicely. Savary jeune was known as the "Stradivari" of the bassoon, and his bassoons commanded high resale prices in England until the 20th century. Eugène Jancourt, later professor at the Paris Conservatoire, played solos on a Savary tenor bassoon during 1839–40. Fewer than a dozen Savary tenor bassoons are reported in the world, and almost all are in museum collections. With two modern crooks and compatible reeds. $20,000 negotiable.
